Cocktails and Closets
A Fundraiser to Benefit the Waterville Valley Historical Society
Join us for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at one of the historic homes in the Valley, generously hosted by current owner Jerauld Adams. This is sure to be the premiere event of the season!
Step back in time as you tour this remarkably preserved historic home, first occupied by the Fabyan family in the early 1900s and later by the Lorenz family during the latter half of the twentieth century. The house retains many of its original features, including hardwood floors, wood-beamed ceilings, a spacious wrap-around porch, original furnishings, trim, and window shades.
Guests will have the opportunity to peek inside closets where original wallpaper and hooks still survive, along with vintage clothing once worn by former owners, offering a rare and personal connection to the home's past.
Along the way, learn about the remarkable individuals who called this house home. Harry Fabyan, a Boston judge and prominent bank executive, was instrumental in the founding of the Waterville Valley Association which owned the Waterville Inn between 1919 and 1948. Later, the home was occupied by renowned meteorologist and scientist Ed Lorenz, whose groundbreaking work on chaos theory led to the popular concept known as the "butterfly effect," inspired by his famous 1972 question: "Does the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?"
Throughout the evening, guests will be treated to specialty cocktails, wine, beer, and sparkling waters, accompanied by a selection of hors d'oeuvres.
